The Power of Monthly Giving: Spotlight on Scott McCaskill

At the Mental Health Association of Frederick County (MHA), we are fortunate to have a community of dedicated supporters who understand the importance of mental health services. Today, we highlight one of our monthly donors, Scott McCaskill, whose commitment to mental health has made a significant impact on our organization and the people we serve.

Scott McCaskill is more than just a donor—he is a Board Member, current Treasurer, and a true advocate for mental health in Frederick County. Recurring donations like Scott’s are the backbone of our efforts, allowing us to plan for the future, expand our services, and continue to provide vital mental health support to those in need.

Why Scott Supports MHA

We had the opportunity to speak with Scott about why he chose to support MHA. Here’s what he had to say:

Please tell us a little bit about yourself, including how you are connected to MHA.

My name is Scott McCaskill, and I am the President and Certified Financial Planner with McCaskill Financial in downtown Frederick.  I have been involved with MHA since 2018, and I am currently in my second term serving as Treasurer for the MHA Board of Directors.

Why is MHA important to you?

I will admit, when I first joined MHA, I knew of the organization…but I had no idea of the magnitude of the work MHA does or how big of an impact they make on our community.  My first year with MHA was spent learning all about the various programs offered, the array of services provided, and the large network of providers MHA oversees.  From there, it became “How can I help?” and “How can I do more?”, and I am proud to be part of the MHA family.

Which MHA program/service interests you the most?

To pick one might be difficult, but I will say that the Walk-In Crisis Care Center has been one of the most impressive success stories I have been able to witness for any organization in our community.  MHA was able to research, build and launch this program…while coordinating partners in both the private and public sectors.  If you haven’t had a chance to visit MHA or contribute to the work they are doing, then I would encourage you to reach out and get involved.

How do you prefer to donate?

My wife Heidi and I typically make an annual donation at the Catoctin Affair event each year as part of their giving campaign.  But this year, we have also added in a monthly donation, which makes it very convenient for us, but also helps the MHA team plan and budget for income and expenses each year.

How much of an impact do you feel your contribution to MHA has?

Being part of the MHA Board of Directors, a member of the Finance Committee and the MHA Treasurer, I see first-hand how diligently the MHA staff works to make every dollar count and stretch their budget out as far as possible.  For that reason, I know that every donation and contribution (big or small) goes a LONG way to serving our community and helping out those in need.

What other causes do you support?

In addition to serving as the Treasurer for MHA, I also have the privilege of being the Board Vice President for Platoon22 and the Veterans Services Center, Treasurer (and soon to be Board President) of Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County, and the Chair of the City of Frederick Pension Committee. Heidi and I are also members of Frederick Health’s Order of the Good Samaritan, and I have previously been involved in other organizations throughout our Frederick community, including the Frederick County Humane Society, the Community Foundation of Frederick County, and we are continued supporters of the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce and the amazing work they do for our local businesses.

On a scale of 1-5, how would you rate your donation experience with MHA?

Can I give them a 10? Or even an 11? The MHA team has been a pleasure to work with, and they make the donation process an easy, fun and rewarding experience.  Whether your goal is a one-time donation or recurring contribution, they can help you find a solution that works for you. Also, if there is a specific program or service you would like to support for personal or family reasons, MHA will gladly guide you through the process and help you provide the impact that you are looking for.

The Impact of Recurring Donations

We hope Scott’s commitment to mental health sparks a trend among our supporters: recurring donations provide a stable foundation for our work. By committing to a set amount over a period of time, Scott, Heidi, and others like them help ensure that MHA can continue to offer essential services. These donations allow us to plan ahead, expand our outreach, and respond to the growing mental health needs of our community.
