Frederick County Bank has generously sponsored the Catoctin Affair again this year! We are honored and humbled by their generosity which includes supporting Vice President, Business Development Officer Mary Barry as co-chairwoman once again. We talked with Mary about working at FCB, her experience with MHA and how great things can happen when community organizations support each other.
"I'm Mary Barry with Frederick County Bank and Mental Health Matters because during a time of need, MHA helped my family. I am in a position to give back and I believe in the ability to do that."
Frederick County Bank, led by President and CEO Marty Lapera, has recently celebrated 15 years in our community! Tell us what makes you stand out among other banks in the area.
"Our employees and their true passion for this community. When you call us, a real person answers the phone, our staff provides the best customer service and we truly care about our clients."
Tell us how FCB got involved with MHA and the Catoctin Affair.
"I attended years ago and someone heard me talk about how much I loved it. I was asked to join the committee the following year... so here I am 5 years later!"
We appreciate the support that FCB has shown us! Can you tell us how our partnership strengthens our community?
"It shows that we too recognize the needs of others, whether on the business side as a bank or the personal side as individual bankers. It's not just a financial commitment but a commitment of the heart."
If there was one thing you would want the community to understand about the benefits of choosing a community bank, what would it be?
"We are empowered to make our own decisions right here because we take the time to get to know our clients."
-How can people learn more about your services and locations? You know this in the digital economy, do we want to focus on our services and locations? We have individuals with personalities that can meet clients anywhere, anytime, the best way that works for them. Let us buy you a coffee at the local coffee shop, walk and talk with us around downtown, better yet…tell us your story and show us your business, we’d love to hear about it!
"CALL ME ANYTIME. I MEAN THAT! You can also visit our website http://www.fcbmd.com or any of our five bank locations."
Now Mary, you're pretty well known in Frederick! Will you tell us more about you?
“I'm a passionate banker who does what she says she will do. I am committed to you if you’re my client, friend or community partner."
How did you get into banking and did you always want to be a banker?
"A family friend shared that I would be a good bank teller so that's where the story begins and I'll celebrate 30 years next year!
What is the most fulfilling part of your job?
"My clients each and every day ... They complete me. There's no greater feeling than when I know I have helped them."
We know you are true advocate of Mental Health. Can you tell us why you feel strongly about ensuring that people are aware of our services and that we have the necessary funding to continue providing them?
"I have friends who've had to deal with suicide and I had a family member who struggled with mental health... it's about knowing these services exist and not being too proud to ask for help. Everyone deserves to be heard and helped no matter their situation
. and these agencies want to help others. We need the funding to continue to help those not able to financially get the counseling they may need."
And finally on a lighter note, when you're not working and being a busy wife and community advocate, what do you enjoy doing for fun and relaxation?
"Getting my toes done, HGTV, and a great Lifetime movie."
Thank you to Mary and the rest of the FCB team for your support!
