The Frederick County Hotline is always looking for people interested in helping others. Through a 40-hour training program, volunteers acquire skills in listening and communication, problem solving, suicide prevention, and crisis intervention. We educate our volunteers on a variety of topics encountered on the Hotline such as adolescent development, mental illness, domestic violence, suicide, grief and bereavement, and gay and lesbian issues.
All volunteers and interns must be at least 18 years of age. Volunteers are required to work at least one four-hour shift per week and sign on for a one year commitment. If you would like information about becoming a Hotline volunteer or arranging for an internship position, please call or e-mail the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator at 301-663-0011 ext. 120.
The Telephone Reassurance program uses volunteers to make scheduled, outgoing calls to the elderly and homebound. Calls are made during morning hours; one four-hour shift per week, available 7 days a week. Training is provided in elder issues, depression, and suicide prevention. Volunteers must be 18 years of age. Call or e-mail the Telephone Reassurance Coordinator at 301-663-0011 ext. 120.
