Why Give to MHA?

The Mental Health Association of Frederick County is an independent 501(c)3 organization dedicated to building a strong foundation of emotional wellness by educating, empowering and advocting for children, adults and families through a wide array of services.

Your gift enables MHA to be available, accessible and responsive to the changing needs of our community.  Your support brings us closer to our vision of a community where children can grow and thrive without fear, where good mental health is valued, where people of all agees knwo when and how to seek help for emotional or family problems without shame, and where everyone will have access to mental health services without barriers.

In 2011, MHA provided the following services to our community:
  • Served over 41,000 families, children, and individuals.
  • Provided children and families with 2,945 sessions of therapy regardless of ability to pay
  • Answered over 22,239 calls for support and referrals, of which 1,404 were suicide-related
  • Conducted training for 13,643 children on personal body safety/child abuse prevention, bullying, internet safety, and stress and anger management for teens
  • 55 Community volunteers were trained as Court Ordered Special Advocates (CASA) to act in the best interest of  85 foster children in the Frederick County court system
  • Presented 239 classes on early education topics to 2,870 child care providers
  • Trained 216 non-mental health professionals on skills they can use to help someone experiencing a mental health crisis.
  • Distributed 2,500 copies of the Guide to Mental Health and Community Support Services
  • And so much more....
